Polymath Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859), a self-described 'scientific traveller', was one of the most respected scientists of his time. Humboldt's wanderlust led him across Europe and to South America, Mexico, the U.S., and Russia, and his voyages and observations resulted in the discovery of many species previously unknown to Europeans. Originating as lectures delivered in Berlin and Paris (1827-1828), his multi-volume Cosmos: Sketch of a Physical Description of the Universe (1845-1860) represented the culmination of his lifelong interest in understanding the physical world. As Humboldt writes, 'I ever desired to discern physical phenomena in their widest mutual connection, and to comprehend Nature as a whole, animated and moved by inward forces.' Volume 1 (1846) investigates celestial and terrestrial phenomena, from nebulae to the temperature of the earth, as well as 'organic life'. Throughout, he stresses the method of, and limits to, describing the universe's physical nature.

Approaching the World s Religions Volume 1

Philosophically Thinking about World Religions is different from other works in the discipline today. It deviates from the typical approaches used for the study of world religions. Its goal is to engage readers in thinking hard about world religions, not about the data surrounding those traditions. By focusing on philosophical questions, each reader should be challenged to do their own investigations that may reveal the heart of these traditions. Another stance that this project takes that distinguishes it from other texts in the discipline is that it advocates an inclusivist perspective regarding the world religions. Pluralism, which is the predominate assumption today, ends either in contradiction or in the development of a metatheory that dismisses crucial distinctions between the various traditions or eliminates some ancient religions because they do not fit the metatheory. By taking an open inclusivist approach, all religious traditions may engage at the table of dialogue. The final essay is about justice and social affairs. While that discussion is couched within the context of a particular tradition, each religious tradition must have the discussion. But it must be more than an intrareligious dialogue; it must become an interreligious dialogue.

The Journey Through The Cosmos

The Journey Through The Cosmos is the first entry in the Little Blue Book Series and comprises of the first three discourses of the Monodoxy, which is itself the first disquisition of the founding book of Astronism which is titled the Omnidoxy. The Journey Through The Cosmos introduces readers to the mind of cosmic heights of Cometan, as the organised philosophy’s founder, and acts as the first instance of cosmic philosophy, or cosmontology. The Journey Through The Cosmos is the title for the second discourse of the Monodoxy following the Compendological Introduction discourse and preceding the Functionalities of Progeny & Phenomena discourse. As the title suggests, Cometan takes you on a journey through his conception of the universe which he titles The Cosmos as a whole animate entity with a spiritual aspect and an aspect of destiny, both of which are only later explored as part of Astronist beliefs. The Journey Through The Cosmos book serves two purposes. Not only does it introduce the world to Cometan, his writings in the Omnidoxy, and his philosophy of Astronism, but in the context of its publication as a book, The Journey Through The Cosmos introduces the Little Blue Book Series. The Little Blue Book Series was created and first published by Cometan himself as a way to simplify and commercialise the immensity of the two million word length of the Omnidoxy into smaller, more bite-size publications. A successful from its very first published entry, the Little Blue Book Series has gone on to become a symbol of Astronist commercial literature and way for Cometan’s words to reach readers of all ages and abilities who remain daunted by the beauty and yet the sheer extensiveness of the Omnidoxy as the longest religious text in history.
