Mountain Home Air Force Base began inauspiciously as a small effort to support and train B-24 combat aircrews for the rigors of World War II. Today it represents the only active-duty air force installation in the heart of Idaho. From its shadowy rebirth in the late 1940s to its buildup under Strategic Air Command, the base housed some of the cold war's most important assets in the battle against communism. Mountain Home's most recent and longest-serving tenant is the world-famous 366th Fighter Wing "Gunfighters." Under the stewardship of the Gunfighters, Mountain Home has been transformed from a remote, dusty World War II airstrip to one of the air force's premier training facilities, readying aircrews and their support agencies for the demands of modern warfare.

This book MEMORIES OF MOUNTAIN HOME SCHOOL is a personal journey by a former student, a labor of love. Part 1 traces the evolution of the school from a one-room, one-teacher school teaching grades one through eight to become a rural consolidated school teaching a fully accredited high school curriculum, to its sad decline and closure brought about by dramatic socio-economic changes that took place following WWII. The author draws from original sources to capture the role of the school in the lives of early settlers prior to Oklahoma statehood and during the years of rapid settlement and political turmoil following Oklahoma statehood through WWI. It describes dedicated work to continue upgrading the school during the economically static years of the 1920s and the years of brutal economic decline during the Great Depression, to form a fully accredited rural high school. After becoming fully accredited in 1941 Mountain Home School enjoyed its years of greatest achievements during the 1940s. Then decline brought about by rapidly declining population set in in the early 1950s leading to closure of the school in 1958. Part 2 is the personal memories contributed by 56 former Mountain Home School students. Their span the period from the early 1930s to the closure of the school in 1958. These wonderful personal memories convey the spirit and achievements of the school and the spirit and shared values of those who learned there.

Mountain/Home presents new translations of Japanese literature from the country’s medieval period to the present. The narrative arc of the selections follows the evolution of Japan’s national self-image. Because Mount Fuji, more than any other national symbol, has represented the soul of Japan, Mountain/Home begins with works inspired by the mountain’s presence. They include excerpts from some of the first literary works in which Mount Fuji appears: the mysterious Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, early court poetry, and the Confessions of Lady Nijо̄, among others. These works are followed by a chapter from Lady Murasaki’s brilliant novel, The Tale of Genji, and Edo-period haiku by Bashо̄ and Issa. In the twentieth century, Japan went through its darkest years. But out of the trauma of militarism, war, devastation, and defeat came outstanding fiction by Dazai Osamu and Natsume Sо̄seki, as well as avant-garde poetry by Yoshioka Minoru and Ayukawa Nobuo. In recent decades, contemporary optimism has produced writing that breaks new literary ground without forgetting the past: experimental fiction by Kurahashi Yumiko and poetry about everyday life by Takahashi Mutsuo.

A stand alone story in the bestselling SIX PACK RANCH series by New York Times Bestselling Author Vivian Arend. ------------- There’s no distance you can run to escape the past. Too stubborn to face his sins, Jesse Coleman bolted from the Six Pack Ranch, only to fall straight into the arms of a beautiful stranger. Twelve hours later, the seductive firebrand is nothing but a whiskey-laced memory—but one powerful enough to convince Jesse tracking down his elusive lover is worth the effort. Darilyn Hayes figured it was her lucky night when the sexiest cowboy in Alberta interrupted her annual drink-until-I-fall-over wake. At least until four weeks later when she discovers she’s pregnant and her one-night-stand is nowhere to be found. Still, as she’s shared with her devoted blog readers, Dare has dealt with life’s not-so-gentle surprises before. She’ll make it on her own. When a meme gone viral leads to their reunion, Jesse’s floored by Dare’s news. She’s very clear she’s not looking for a commitment, but screw that. He’s going to do the right thing by her and his unborn kid. The fact they lit the sheets on fire is a bonus, but with a baby on the way, both their lives are gonna change. Jesse’s got a ton of family to reconnect with, including his estranged twin. Dare holds family loosely—even though she loves them—because she knows too well how fragile life can be. Between her and Jesse, they’ve got enough baggage to open a store. But they still have a shot at forever—if they’re willing to fight for it. This story contains the following: A sexy, dirty, cocky-as-hell prodigal son with massive bridges to rebuild. A woman able to see to the heart of the matter yet bold enough to speak the truth. A family of extraordinary resolve and endless love. A wedding or two. And babies—oh lordy, the babies… Keywords: Canadian Author, cowboy, western, contemporary, small town For readers who enjoy: Jennifer Ryan, Joan Johnston, Kate Pearce, Linda Lael Miller, Lindsay McKenna, Diana Palmer, Maisey Yates, Vicki Lewis Thompson, Lorelei James.

A little white house sitting on a mountain at Goshen, West Virginia, along with the natural surroundings of the area spurred a teen-age boy towards adulthood. His intensive thoughts, wonderings, and at times comical outlook on life caused him to write down his reflections in a journal. Those journal entries and poetry are presented here in At Home on the Mountain. As you travel through this adventure to adulthood with Brian, you will begin to see the personality of this young man spring forth. You cannot help but join him sleeping under the stars on the mountain as he ingeniously protects himself from the assault of mosquitoes. You will further follow his trail as he expounds upon the woodchucks that have made themselves at home under the barn. This book is refreshing as it gives us a look at nature through the eyes of a teen-ager. At Home on the Mountain is enjoyable and a treasure.

My Little Mountain Home (and me) is a realistic, light hearted glimpse of life in the rural South in the 1940's and 1950's. The author has taken a life's worth of experience and drawing from her own memories has condensed much of it into a brilliant work of literature. The story follows young Beth-ann through her daily routines and shows her true spirit in the face of adversity, as she struggles with losing her beloved Grandma. It is an "I" book-speaking as though talking to a best friend and captures the authentic dialect perfectly. Young and old alike will fall in love with the Amberson family.
