Biker’s Diary started in 1999 as a weekly column in a local newspaper then known as the River Valley Reader, now the Bluff Country Reader. Located in a very popular tourist area, the publisher’s plan was a newspaper that emphasized local arts, culture, and recreation. Dr. Jan applauded that effort, and had spent a year as a community columnist for another paper, so she submitted some sample columns and proposed this column, written by a biker. Ten successful years later, she was asked by a faithful reader is she intended to publish the columns in a book. That started her thinking, and she asked her publisher for permission to do so, which was granted. At the beginning, Dr. Jan was living in Lincoln, and commuting to her and Spouse Roger’s country place near Lanesboro MN. Upon retirement, they chose that country place as their primary residence. Those locations – and the people along the way – provided fodder for the mill of writing, as have the many places around the world to which they have both traveled and/or at which Dr. Jan has worked. The column started out as a way to capture the ambling and sometimes philosophical thoughts and experiences triggered by almost-daily time spent on a bike. When a serious illness got in the way of biking, the habit of writing about life became almost a tension reliever as she wrote about that experience. In the years since it started, the column has evolved into writing about anything and everything she and others experience in life. This book captures some of the best of those first ten years.

'For every comic escapade of the carefree roustabout there is an equally eye-opening moment in the development of the future revolutionary leader. By the end of the journey, a politicized Guevara has emerged to predict his own legendary future' Time

An expanded and freshly translated edition of the cult bestseller, for a new generation of Che Guevara fans. In January 1952, two young men from Buenos Aires set out to explore South America on 'La Poderosa', the Powerful One: a 500cc Norton. One of them was the twenty-three-year-old Che Guevara. Written eight years before the Cuban Revolution, these are Che's diaries -- full of disasters and discoveries, high drama, low comedy and laddish improvisations. During his travels through Argentina, Chile, Peru and Venezuela, Che's main concerns are where the next drink is coming from, where the next bed is to be found and who might be around to share it. Che becomes a stowaway, a fireman and a football coach; he sometimes falls in love and frequently falls off the motorbike. Within a decade the whole world would know his name. His trip might have been an adventure of a lifetime -- had his lifetime not turned into a much greater adventure.; Features exclusive, unpublished photos taken by the 23-year old Ernesto on his journey across the continent.; and a tender preface by Aleida Guevara, offering an insightful perspetive on her father -- the man and the icon.

In January 1952, two young men from Buenos Aires set out to explore South America on an ancient Norton motorbike. The journey lasted six months and took them thousands of miles, all the way from Argentina to Venezuela. En route, there was disasters and discoveries, high drama, low comedy, fights, parties and a lot of serious drinking. They met an extraordinary range of people: native indians and copper miners, lepers, police, wanderers and tourists. They became stowaways, firemen and football coaches, and joined in a strike. They sometimes fell in love, and frequently fell off the motorbike. Both of them kept diaries. One of them was a tall and good-looking medical student called Ernest Guevara de la Serna. Using the standard Argentinean nickname, others would sometimes refer to the two companions as Big Che and Little Che. In Ernesto's case, the nickname stuck. Within a decade the whole world would know Che Guevara. This is the story of that remarkable journey, eight years before the Cuban Revolution, in Che's own words, and illustrated with contemporary photographs. For Che, it was a formative experience, and amidst the humour and pathos of the tale, there are examples of his idealism and his solidarity with the poor and the oppressed. But it is far from being the diary of a militant, and sometimes very far from being “political correct,” which may be the reason that the manuscript has only been made available now, a quarter century after Che's death in the Bolivian jungle. Instead, it is a record kept by an exuberant, intelligent and observant 23-year-old, describing what might have been the adventure of a lifetime—had his lifetime not turned into a much greater adventure.

Private Diary of an O J Juror

This work was originally published prior to the conclusion of the O.J. Simpson murder trial. At that time, California state law made it a crime for jurors and ex-jurors to be paid for writing about their service until 90 days after a trial had ended. That law was found to violate Michael Knox's First Amendment rights, clearing the way for his story to be made public before the trial had ended. Here, Knox reveals that while racial divisions existed on the panel, they were grossly exaggerated. He describes the oppressive, bizarre, and demeaning life of sequestration, where alcohol is prohibited and privacy is nonexistent...even during conjugal visits, jurors worried about having their conversation taped. Knox also explains why he was leaning towards a guilty verdict just prior to his dismissal as a juror.

Travel Diary: Bolivia is a travel guidebook with a slant. It uses personal travelogues from people's trips to Bolivia. By reading these travelogues, one can gain a greater perspective on the culture and customs of a country and they can also see the places that the author enjoyed (or didn't enjoy) visiting. The book is best used in conjunction with a 'regular' travel guide, which provides the basic information for travelers, like hotel and restaurant information. But Travel Diary: Bolivia will give you information on actual visits to some restaurants and hotels and can steer you towards good places to dine and sleep and it can help you avoid the bad places. Many people enjoy reading travelogues before visiting foreign countries, but it is very difficult to print and carry this information with you. Travel Diary: Bolivia allows you to have access to the information found only in those travelogues by printing the travelogues in a paperback format, which is easy to carry and convenient for the traveler.

As Ian Brown's sixtieth birthday loomed, every moment seemed to present a choice: confront or deny the biological fact that the end was now closer than the beginning. An award-winning writer, Brown instead chose to notice every moment, try to understand it, capture it . . . all without panicking. Brown's uncensored account of his sixty-first year is a richly informative, candid report from the line between middle-aged and soon-to-be-elderly. It perfectly captures the obsessions of a generation realizing that they are no longer young.

This book is a compelling collection of a fictional cops reminiscences, which really captures the essence of what it was like to be a police officer in a small northwest town, spanning a fascinating period of time . . . from back in the 1960s (when they still used typewriters and carbon copies of reports), through the 1970s and early 1980s (computers and, horror of horrors, women officers). The authors voice, sometimes down-and-dirty, other times tinged with appealingly macho humor, rings completely true as he tells the tale of Ron OShea.

In 2013, Bradley Howard set off on a three month journey, which ran roughly 3000 miles across the United States of America. He visited 4 States and 'no-trace' camped 75 times. What is more, Brad dodged many venemous spiders and snakes on his way too. Whilst on the tour, he visited many amazing places, including The Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park, 'Sin City'; Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Death Valley, California. He encountered legendary roads such as the Coastal Highway 1 and Route 66, mega bridges such as The Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, and much more besides. Through his trip, Bradley kept a journal, which he has now turned into this book, to share his knowledge and adventures with others. He writes of his reflections on profound insights that came from his adventure, how he managed to live on a budget whilst being on the road, and how he kept himself fuelled whilst he still maintained his Vegan diet. Along the way, Bradley worked hard to tread in harmony with the environment.
