Taking a quantitative approach, Allan G. Bogue assesses the nature of radical and conservative Republicanism in the Civil War Senate, documents the distinctions among the senators, and clarifies the factors that encouraged or discouraged factionalism. The Earnest Men is divided into two parts: "Men, Context, and Patterns" and "The Substance of Disagreement." In Part One, Bogue investigates the backgrounds of the senators and the institutional structure of the Senate, and he examines the character of leadership exercised in the Senate chamber. He then uses roll-call analysis as a means of establishing distinctions between radical and moderate senators. To account for their voting patterns, he considers living arrangements, seating, regionalism, and election results. In Part Two, Bogue looks closely at the debates in the Senate in order to ascertain the nature of disagreements between radical and moderate Republicans in such policy-making areas as slavery, taxation, human rights, punishment and rehabilitation, and legislation affecting the border states. Taking issue with the idea that the Republicans were essentially unified on the issues of the day, he finds that their differences were widespread and important. A major study of the Senate in one of its most productive periods, The Earnest Men is a remarkable combination of systematic analysis and narrative history.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST: A TRIVIAL COMEDY FOR SERIOUS PEOPLE "The truth is rarely pure and never simple" ― Oscar Wilde, The Importance of Being Earnest The Importance of Being Earnest, A Trivial Comedy for Serious People is a play by Oscar Wilde is a play first performed in London, 1895. The story encompasses the themes of popular culture, class conflict, courtship, marriage, and deceit, among others. The story starts with Ernest Worthing visiting his friend Algernon Moncrieff. Somehow in this visit, Ernest is forced to admit to living a double life and that his real name is Jack. Jack leads a boring life in the country as a responsible guardian for Cecily, a young ward. He assumes the identity of a seedy younger brother named Earnest to enjoy the urban social life. Algernon confesses a similar deception: he reveals to have a non-existent invalid friend named Bunbury, whom he can visit whenever he wishes to avoid something. Jack is in love with Gwendolen Fairfax, Algernon ́s cousin. Jack cuts a deal with Algernon to distract Lady Bracknell, Gwendolen ́s mother, as Jack proposes to Gwendolen. In return, Jack will dine with Algernon that night so he can avoid dining with his aunt, Lady Bracknell. The plan worked because Gwendolen is smitten by the name Ernest but Lady Bracknell enters the room and interrupts. Lady Bracknell deemed Jack unworthy of her child upon learning he is an orphan and tells him to find his parents first. Jack, still posing as Earnest, gives his country address to Gwendolen. Algernon overhears it and takes note. Algernon announced that he ́s visiting Bunbury the next day- but goes to Jack ́s address. He went as Earnest. Cecily has been interested in the tales of Earnest, sooner than later, Cecily and Algernon- still posing as Earnest, started flirting. Algernon ́s presence interrupted Jack ́s plan to abandon his double life and announcing Earnest ́s death. At that moment, Gwendolen enters and finds the two not earnest men. What will happen to the;Earnest ́s? Will Jack find his parents? How will it end for the couples? Read this interesting book now and find out the importance of being earnest!

This dissertation seeks to establish a coherent religio-historical background of Rom 8:18-27 in the light of which the text can be interpreted with greater certainty. After an exposition of vocabulary, motifs and structure which cause problems, the second part of chapter one offers a broad outline of the history of research on the text. uses apocalyptic ideas which can be found in early Jewish and Christian texts. However, in this dissertation it is held that all the different motifs and thoughts contained in the text can be found in a single coherent tradition, viz that of the Flood. This religio-historical background is discussed in the second chapter. An early version of this tradition is reconstructed from Gen 1-6 NS 1En 6-11. Jewish, Christian and Gnostic texts. Flood tradition. The chapter begins with a discussion of the train of thought of the text, which is divided into smaller units. In the second part of the chapter the possible connections between the Pauline text and the Flood tradition are treated. It is shown that all of the motifs, which usually cause the exegetes problems, can be explained from the background of the Flood tradition. Paul uses elements from the Flood tradition when he speaks of the new world. the exposition in Rom 8:18-27 and the text thereby fits well into the general outline of Romans as Paul's discussion of the relation between Jews and Gentiles in the Church.
